My laboratory studies how physical forces regulate cell maintenance, the remodeling of connective tissue extracellular matrix, and the resulting changes in tissue mechanical function and mechanical properties, primarily in the context of wound healing and skin mechanobiology. One age-related area that we are investigating is how aging changes the mechanical environment of the extracellular matrix and the mechanosensing apparatus of dermal fibroblasts such that skin becomes fragile as we get older.
